Matt Holliday home run
...off Paul Maholm, 1st inning, 8/7/09... Matt and I both connected here. A quick perusal of these pages will prove I'm no action photographer, but I got lucky here. I'm better with the atmospherics than the action. This was "Deerhunter"-like: one shot. My S5 has such a feeble burst rate I've never bothered to utilize it. Were I an action-type photographer, especially professional, I'd likely have a different perspective on the matter (and camera, of course), but if you're essentially filming something, it strikes me as a bit disingenuous. Henri Cartier-Bresson's "decisive moment" is diluted -- does that sound too pure? -- to "decisive frame", which, with a high burst/buffer rate, is likely sandwiched somewhere in the sequence. For me, this was special since it went for a homer. It's cropped somewhat; Ryan Ludwick was on deck windmilling his bat and it showed distractingly in the LH batter's box. I've threatened to go to spring training for years. Maybe I could get Matt to sign a print of this.
